nbn® will release their new high speed upgrades in September 2025. We’re here to give you all the details you need to be ready.
In a pivotal shift for Australia, September will see high speed upgrades and multi gigabit plans released by nbn, for eligible customers, and we are so excited to be part of the journey.
Having a robust and resilient network supporting your connection has never been more important. It’s something we will continue to pride ourselves on.
Why the need for change?
We know that Australian internet has lagged behind the rest of the world, pardon the pun. This is just a reality of living on a large island.
According to Ookla, as of April 2025, Singapore has the highest average speed for fixed-line internet, 345.33Mbps.
Australia, in comparison, is more than four times slower. Ranking 81 globally, our country’s fixed-line average sits at 80.49Mbps.
Why the new numbers are important.
The way we use the internet is evolving, and our plans must keep up with that change.
The average number of devices per Australian household, that utilise Wi-Fi, will rise to over 30 this year.
Think of your plan as the capacity – or bandwidth – you have at home. That capacity could be how fast you can download a file, or it could relate to how many devices/streams/games you can use at the same time.
Each HD/4k stream, online gaming session, mobile phone, security camera, smart device, or any other piece of technology that connects to your internet, all adds up.
These new plans help Australians use the internet the way they want and need to at home, without worrying if they are going to slow down their own network.
Getting ready for the changes
Crucially, these plans will only be available for Fibre to the Premise (FTTP or fibre) and Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) services.
There are still a few million Australian households using copper connections (Fibre to the Node, Fibre to the Curb, and fibre to the building), which are capped at 100Mbps and prone to issues.
Before you shake your fist in anger, many of these premises are eligible for NBN’s $0 fibre upgrade program – meaning, NBN will come and upgrade your home to fibre at no cost to you.
Fibre is more resilient, sees less faults, supports faster speeds, and is future proof.
You can check if your address is eligible here.
We are really excited about the upgrades that are coming later this year, and we hope you’ll join us on the journey.
