nbn® Newcastle rollout
Around 100,000 homes and businesses across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie were part of the early rollout of the National Broadband Network around the end of 2015.
The region was central to the start of NBN Co’s rollout of fibre-to-the-node technology, with early suburbs including Adamstown, Bar Beach, Broadmeadow, Carrington, Cooks Hill, Hamilton East, Hamilton South, Hamilton, Islington, Kooragang, Maryville, Merewether Heights, Merewether, Newcastle East, Newcastle West, Newcastle, The Hill, The Junction, Tighes Hill and Wickham.
Then, in 2020, the first stage of the FTTP rollout included Belmont North, Charlestown and Toronto.
The federal government announced in February 2023 that dozens more Hunter suburbs and towns will join the rollout of faster broadband technology by the end of 2025. The lucky suburbs will be able to upgrade to a full-fibre broadband connection.
NBN Co has already completed upgraded connections in many Hunter suburbs and will add more before the end of this year.
Once your area has been connected, you’ll be able to trigger an upgrade to FTTP by placing an order at your address with one of the internet service providers in Newcastle for one of the three highest-speed plans.
Not sure if your suburb is eligible for FTTP? Check the nbn® map Newcastle.
