Ultrafast nbn® now available.
Hello, ultra-fast internet. Gigabit nbn® – also known as nbn® 1000 – is up to 10 times faster than most existing internet connections.
We’re here to help you get up to speed on nbn® 1000, find out whether your address is eligible and decide whether Gigabit internet is right for you.
What is nbn® 1000?
The nbn® 1000 plan is one of the fastest residential nbn® speeds available in Australia, but it’s only accessible over certain connection types. Not every ISP offers nbn® 1000, the good news is that we do! The maximum download speed on these plans is 1000 megabits per second (Mbps), which is equal to one gigabit (Gbps) – hence the nickname ‘gigabit internet’.
With a maximum download speed of 1000 Mbps, this tier also now offers a maximum upload speed of 100 Mbps, delivering double the previous upload capacity and making it ideal for video calls, cloud backups, and households with multiple high-demand users.
If you regularly have more than five users browsing, using VoIP phones, heavy gaming online, streaming 4K or 8K video, downloading large files, running home offices, or doing whatever they do on the internet, Gigabit internet might be a good option for your household.

Can I get nbn® 1000?
Not everyone is eligible for gigabit nbn® just yet, and it will depend on what technology is used for your connection. You’ll need an FTTP (fibre to the premises) connection at home in order to access this Ultrafast internet.
To check your connection type, click here to see if your address is eligible. NBN Co has confirmed that by the end of 2025, around 90% of Australian homes and businesses will be able to access nbn® Home Ultrafast speeds.

nbn® 1000 plans FAQs
Yes. The nbn® 1000 plan (previously 1000/50 Mbps) was uplifted to 1000/100 Mbps on 14 September 2025 for eligible FTTP and HFC customers.
This means you now enjoy double the upload speed, making video calls smoother, cloud backups faster, and shared household connections more reliable.
Our nbn® 1000 Home Ultrafast plan is just $139 a month – only $20 per month more than our 750/50 Mbps plan. That’s incredibly fast internet for incredible value.
nbn® 1000 offers maximum speeds of 1000/100 Mbps, making it one of the fastest residential nbn® plans available in Australia. Typical evening speeds average around 890/85 Mbps, giving households more than enough capacity for heavy streaming, gaming, cloud backups and remote work all running at once. It’s extremely fast with the ability to easily support all home and remote working needs.
nbn® 1000 is available to customers on FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) and HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connections. With the 2025 nbn® speed uplift now live, millions of premises across Australia can access gigabit speeds, and NBN Co is targeting coverage of around 90% of homes and businesses by the end of 2025.

Not all connection types have access to gigabit nbn®. You’ll need to have either an FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) or HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connection to sign up for this Ultrafast plan.
If your address doesn’t currently have FTTP or HFC, NBN Co is continuing its fibre rollout with the goal of making higher speed tiers, including nbn® 1000, available to around 90% of Australian premises by the end of 2025.
Gigabit nbn® is another name for nbn® 1000. It refers to the gigabit-per-second (1000 megabits) download speed this plan offers. As well as being able to support all the activities designed for lower speed tiers, Home Ultrafast offers another level of experience. Most importantly, it will help prepare your premises for the new wave of digital technologies that may soon be seen as standard in Australian households.
If you’re trying to stream 4K or 8K games or play multiplayer games, gigabit internet is a great option. nbn® Ultrafast supports faster upload and download of gaming updates. Faster internet ensures no lagging or latency issues at crucial points in your game.

Gigabit internet was designed to be able to simultaneously support more than ten devices streaming in 4K – so it certainly has the capacity to support most Australian household requirements, even those running busy home offices. Gigabit internet can support even more devices if they aren’t performing data-intensive activities.
Gigabit internet is up there with some of the fastest speeds available for home nbn®, while fibre broadband is a method of delivering that internet connection to an address. In Australia, gigabit nbn® is delivered via fibre – a network of fibre-optic cables that are made up of a combination of optical fibre and coaxial cables.
Definitely. In fact, with nbn® 1000, you can have more than 10 devices all streaming 4K/Ultra HD simultaneously without any latency issues.
nbn® home Ultrafast removes the bottleneck that is experienced with some lower speed plans, meaning you can heavily stream, browse, work, and study with ease without your internet throttling you.
Standard Ethernet cables at Category 5e or higher are usually fine for use with gigabit internet.
If you are installing new cable you may want to use Category 6a or Category 7 to future-proof for faster internet in the future.

To get the most from nbn® Ultrafast (1000/100 Mbps) and higher plans, your router must be able to handle gigabit internet. Look for these features:
- Gigabit Ethernet ports (1000 Mbps or faster)
- Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 capability for modern devices
- Support for high throughput across multiple devices
If your router is more than five years old, it may struggle to deliver full gigabit speeds. That’s why we recommend the eero 7 mesh router, now available with eligible Swoop plans.
eero 7 supports internet plans up to 2.5 Gbps with two auto-sensing 2.5 GbE ports, plus Wi-Fi 7 wireless speeds up to 1.8 Gbps. It’s future-proof, eliminates Wi-Fi dead zones, and is perfect for large households, gamers, and remote workers.
For a seamless experience and peace of mind, you can order the eero 7 directly through Swoop. It comes with parental controls, eero Secure, and ongoing updates to keep your network running at full speed.
Find out more about the eero 7 mesh router here.
A gigabit router is designed to handle internet speeds of 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) or higher through its Ethernet ports and wireless standards. Normal routers may only support speeds up to 100 Mbps or 300 Mbps, which means they can become a bottleneck if you’re on an nbn® Ultrafast plan.
Modern gigabit routers, like the eero 7 mesh router, also include advanced Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 technology, multi-gigabit ports (up to 2.5 Gbps), and mesh networking features. These improvements allow you to get the full benefit of higher nbn® speed tiers across multiple devices, with stronger coverage and lower latency.
