FAQs about nbn® 500 planss
nbn® 500, also known as nbn® Homefast 500, is a new speed tier created in the September 2025 nbn® plans upgrade. It delivers download speeds of up to 500 Mbps and upload speeds of 50 Mbps, making it a big leap from the old nbn® 100 plans.
Yes. The nbn® 500 plans upgrade was introduced in September 2025. Customers on eligible nbn® 100/20 or 100/40 plans with FTTP or HFC connections were automatically upgraded to 500/50 Mbps at no extra cost.
The great news is that the nbn® 500 upgrade didn’t come with a price rise. It costs the same as the old nbn® 100 plan, giving you five times the download speed and double the upload power for much better value.
You’ll need to be on an FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) or HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) connection to access the new nbn® 500 plans. You can check your address here to see if your property is ready for the upgrade.
With the 500/50 Mbps upgrade, you can:
- Stream multiple 4K or 8K videos simultaneously
- Game online with no lag
- Back up large files to the cloud quickly
- Run a household or home office with 5–10+ active users
- Enjoy better performance than the old nbn® 100 plan for the same price
Most households won’t need any special equipment to enjoy the nbn® 500 upgrade. If you’re already on FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) or HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial), your existing nbn® connection box will support the faster speeds.
The main thing to check is your modem/router.
If your current router isn’t gigabit-ready, you may experience slower speeds than your plan allows.
